1 Moel Wnion, Llanllechid
PRN 314 NGR SH 649697 Scheduled Ancient Monument (SAM)

This is a large cairn, 11m diameter, which has been much spread by trampling and is now only about 0.3m high. Constructed mainly of small stones with a few larger slabs. An Ordnance Survey trig pillar has been constructed in the centre and a modern summit cairn has been reconstructed into a shelter around the pillar. There is a "cup-marked" stone formerly on the edge of the cairn but now inside the shelter. The cup mark is c. 4cm diameter and 2cm deep. Similar cup-marks, made by repeated stone hammering, have been found elsewhere in association with Bronze Age cairns but their interpretation is uncertain. The cairn lies on a rather rounded summit, which means it cannot see or be seen from the surrounding lower land.
