Grade: 3 Spinal Point 18 – 28 with bar at 23 (£17,714 – £24,472)

Primary Purpose of the post:

To support the Senior HER Archaeologist in the maintenance, enhancement and development of the regional Historic Environment Record (HER) for north-west Wales, and in managing the information flow into and from the HER, including the provision of information for internal and external enquiries.

Description of Role:

The Historic Environment Record Archaeologist will assist the Senior Historic Environment Record Archaeologist in delivering the Historic Environment Record (HER) for north-west Wales by maintaining and enhancing the HER database and its supporting digital and physical collections. The successful applicant will also assist the Senior HER Archaeologist in responding to enquiries from a range of sources including commercial consultants, students, and members of the general public. In addition, they will assist in undertaking task-based work as part of the agreed grant-aided programmes and through membership of the Historic Environment Data Standards Working Group; assist with the documentation and data security of the HER database system, and; work in conjunction with the other Welsh Archaeological Trusts and additional associates to develop and manage the content and structure of the HER database system. The successful applicant will also be required to supervise and manage volunteers and work placements based within the HER, as appropriate, and will be expected to promote the HER through attendance at Trust outreach events and give presentations if needed.

The majority of the work will be computer-based although it will also be necessary to attend meetings and potentially site visits.

Opportunities to assist in other areas of the Trust's work may also be available, including heritage management, grant-aided projects, outreach or finds-based work.

This full-time post is offered on an initial 12 month contract with a further review, and is based in the Trust's offices in Bangor. The successful applicant will be expected to work 37 hours per week within the Trust's operating flexi-time policy.
