Historic background
Areas which may have formed part of the vaccaries
associated with Dolbadarn castle in the Medieval period. The
name Hafodty Newydd implies an upland station of one of the
lower farms, which subsequently became an independent settlement,
and the Helfa names suggest hunting. From the eighteenth to
the twentieth centuries this area formed part of the Vaynol
estate.
